Some websites will die a quick and painless death, losing the opportunity to reach an audience of millions because they are not managed properly.

So what does it take to create a successful website?

A broad, sweeping solution is ongoing content management, although this is not always necessary or possible. Some sites don't need daily updates, but most do, and most rely on a regular turn-over of information, content, to bring people back time and again.

Incorporating ongoing content management into your site will ensure a third, fourth and ongoing visits. If you fail to update, if your website says "Last Update: May 2002", then you have failed in the cardinal rule of the internet - Content is King! And so will your website fail.

When I started out and needed business cards, I tried a few websites. One company gave me a quote but never did the work, two never bothered to get back to me - business must be good - and the one who finally got the business was someone who really cared about his website.

Granted, it wasn't the best website in the world, but the owner had a Blog where he entered his personal thoughts regularly, making for interesting and entertaining reading, and I found myself going back a couple of times to read the updates, even once I had received my business cards.

It's not such a strange and alien concept is it, the pull of an updated website!
