Life's little pleasures . . .

I'm committed to enjoying the simple pleasures in life. There is a book called "Don't sweat the small stuff - and it's all small stuff" - or something to that effect - but just as little things shouldn't bug us, we should allow little things to please us.

I am on the search for the perfect cup of coffee. At home we have seven different versions, from packet cappuccino (probably the best of them all) to cheap, no-name instant coffee, to decent and expensive instant (which came with a R40 voucher to spend at Kalahari.net and being the kind of person who can't turn down a freebie, I couldn't resist), to four different types of expensive ground coffee to use in a cappuccino machine I bought - and am still struggling to get right.

It has become something of a labour of love trying to work out how to make the perfect cup, and while I am not there yet, it is an adventure I am enjoying.

Too often we can't see the forest for the trees, we are looking for the big picture and missing the sights and sounds on the way. We have lost our ability to become attuned to the parts and instead seach in vain for the sum of those parts.

OK, I know that the coffee analogy is pretty much way off subject, but it's not only about taking time to stop and smell the daisies (or is it roses?), but about not being put off by the little things that make big things great.

There are too many stressors and pains in life, and right now, facing an economic

melt-down, high interest rates and prohibitively expensive petrol and foodstuffs, why not look for some small pleasure to provide a bit of enjoyment in life.

Turn lemons into lemonade and do something.

Until next time... Cheers!
