According to Alexa.com (International web search and data facility), the top 10 sites for South African Users are all overseas-based.
News24.com is the top-ranked South African website, at number 12. Locally-based Standard Bank, MWeb, Absa, Gumtree, IOL and Webmail make it into the Top 20.
So why are these sites so popular?
Without doubt, all go through a huge amount of change on a regular basis, daily and more (except for the online banks which are a totally different sphere of the internet).
Facebook is the most popular site in the world, but is increasingly coming under pressure for stealing employees' valuable work time, and is in fact banned in many organisations!
While the most popular websites in the world are not company websites but in general either news or social networking sites, they demonstrate the sheer pulling power of the net - that a turn-over of information is the road to success.
So before you wave this off as inconsequential, remember that Google, because it brings the users back time after time, has a multi-billion Dollar net-worth!
